The 500 Club is Making a Difference!

05 Apr 2014 Written by

AFL Indonesia is taking an important but costly step in the development of Aussie Rules Football (AFL) in Indonesia. In August this year it will send its first ever Indonesian National team to the 2014 AFL International Cup (IC14) in Melbourne. This is not a team for expats – we are talking a team comprising 100% of Indonesian citizens, how good is that!

2014ic-320x320IC14 will play out over a 2 week period between 9th and 23rd August, and is held only once every 3 years. It is the pinnacle of the international Australian Rules Football scene. The competition will host 23 international teams from the USA, to Denmark, to Japan & Fiji – there is representation from every corner of the globe. And now for the first time Indonesia will be making an appearance!

Represented by a selection of Indonesian National players from the three main AFL Indonesia clubs - the Jakarta Bintangs, Borneo Bears and Bali Geckoes – up to 25 players will be chosen to compete and tour as the Indonesian Garudas National team.

Preparation for this event has been ongoing over the past 4 to 5 years, both on and off the field. The most dedicated young Garudas will be granted the trip of a lifetime to showcase their new found skills at the home of the AFL while representing their mother country.

It is easy to imagine the immense costs involved in sending 25 Indonesian players to Australia for two weeks of competition. Accommodation, airfares, transport, uniforms, winter clothing and food is just the beginning – a truly huge cost for three independent non-profit clubs to bear. The total campaign will cost well in excess of $100,000!

After many years of fundraisers, raffles, private donations and corporate sponsor contributions, there are still more funds that need to be raised so the Garudas can realise what was once only a distant dream.
The Garudas want your help!

A very popular sponsorship option is
The 500 Club, and with 59 current members the program is making a real difference.

The 500 Club is aimed at football loving individuals, community groups and small businesses, looking to become stakeholders in Indonesia’s quest to compete in IC14.

Membership is available now at USD 500-00 or equivalent, once only, and all funds raised from the 500 Club will be applied 100% towards flights, buses, accommodation, football uniforms and living costs on tour for the Indonesian Garudas selected to attend IC14.
